The 5th graders science fair boards were judged prior to the fair according to a pre-set rubric. They received a blue ribbon for meeting WASL standards and red ribbon for not meeting standard. The students that received a red ribbon were given the opportunity to earn a blue ribbon after modifying their boards.
During the science fair, the 5th grader’s science fair boards were judged by a 10th grader, the community, parents, teachers, other students. The 5th graders were also judged on their presentation by the 11th grade AVID students who awarded special plaques on presentation, the board, and science experiment.
